Police Policy, Crisis Response and Oversight Update

The report provides an overview of the Phoenix Police Department policies, the City's
comprehensive crisis response efforts, and oversight measures.

THIS ITEM IS FOR INFORMATION AND DISCUSSION.

Summary
Throughout the past several years the City of Phoenix has implemented numerous
updates to policies and procedures related to the Phoenix Police Department, crisis
response and oversight to enhance public safety throughout the community. These
efforts and accomplishments are a result of stakeholder engagement, City Council
feedback and work of City staff.

This report outlines the topics that will be discussed during the Policy Session:
· Stakeholder engagement and input, both previous and ongoing.
· Accomplishments, including substantive policy changes, enhanced training
implementation, critical incident response updates, mental health initiatives and call
diversion efforts.
· Alternative response and oversight including the City's Family Advocacy Team, the
Community Assistance Program, and the Office of Accountability and Transparency.
· Operational efficiencies and innovations within the Phoenix Police Department.
· Future outlook for the City of Phoenix's Police Department, crisis response, and
oversight.
